Fighting the Führy – ebook debut
This is a collection of essays from Op-Ed pieces I wrote for a column I had with the El Paso Herald Post online newspaper (now defunct, so these are no longer accessible online) written from the years 2015 – 2020. From the moment of “Mexico….they’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapist” – the rise of Trump – through the election – and afterwards, living under a Trump administration.
My hometown, El Paso, was targeted and became ground zero for some of the most racist unprecedented policies under the Trump regime, which culminated in an act of racism and xenophobia, the tragic mass shooting on August 3rd 2019 “the largest and deadliest attack on a Mexican community, in U.S. history” – I never want the world to forget what happened to the Mexican community, to my hometown, to us, to El Paso.
Opinions expressed are from the viewpoint of my personal experiences as a: fronteriza / border girl, a Mexican-Am / Chicana, a Tejana / Texan, a native El Pasoan, a Latina, who was working in politics, from the volatile 2016 presidential cycle – where I suffered personal cyber attacks from Trump mobs – to the 2020 Texas election cycle.
As a Mexican-American, an El Pasoan, I share the anger and pain of what it was to be targeted and feel the full force of the ire of the “President” of the United States and carry a bullseye on our city, which culminated in what is now known as “the largest and deadliest attack on a Mexican community, in U.S. history.” I repeat, I never want the world to forget what happened here.
Proud fronteriza, born and raised in the beautiful Sun City of El Paso, Texas. I have built a career working in national media and communications, from publications to politics. A journalist and freelance writer, often sharing my experiences as a Mexican, Xicana, a border girl, a Texan / Tejana, a Latina in politics…an everyday political guerrera.
These 14 essays cover my personal experience, my viewpoint. Here is my story…
